Defence Rocked By Sex Scandals

April 6, 2012 by rochelle in Crime

The Australian military continues to be hounded by sexual misconduct and allegations. A male cadet was arrested for accusation of raping a 21-year-old female civilian. The Royal Military College cadet is scheduled to appear at the ACT Magistrates Court.

A report on sexual assault was filed against the male cadet. The victim reported that an unknown man entered her home in the middle of the night and molested her before taking off.

With the help of military police, the suspect was later located in Duntroon grounds. The male cadet was charged with two counts of rape.

The charges were confirmed by a spokesman from the Defence. In a statement, the body said that the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service is helping federal police for the speedy investigation and resolution of the case.

It also said that the Defence is providing assistance to the suspect.

The new scandal has added to the controversies surrounding the Defence. Last year, an 18-year-old cadet reported that she was filmed without her knowledge during a consensual sexual encounter. The filming was aired over Skype.

This scandal opened a can of worms as more claims of abuse surfaced.

The Defence conducted an inquiry on these allegations. Its initial findings showed that some abuses dated back as far as 60 years ago. Defence Minister Stephen Smith said that the majority of the allegations are plausible.

A full report is expected to be released within the month. Defence Force Chief David Hurley said the body remains committed to addressing the issues at the very core.
