It is hard to imagine what life is like for the nearly 25 million or so people who live in North Korea, but this video to celebrate the birthday of Kim Il Sung paints a bit of a picture, albeit a creepy one. The scenes are clearly controlled and not a single building is shedding flecks of paint, which is hard to believe considering how many of these people are starving.

Imagine a country, a little bigger than Australia population wise, where everybody tows the company line. A lot of these people truly believe that the late Kim Jong-il scored 11 holes in one in the first (and last) game of golf he ever played, and the North Koreans that don’t believe would not dare say so.

In North Korea, where the “ils” have been so endlessly defiant, appearance is everything. You’ll see crisp white uniforms that appear brand new, but wearing the uniform will be a frightened and hungry person. The video depicts Korea as a successful enterprise, and tries to hide the fact that North Korea is a failed state. To see that, you really have to look into their eyes.

This video shows the elite, and those who want to be the elite. The North Koreans portray a level of passion for their country which could even make the US look unpatriotic. Watch this video, and try and look past the smiles and dreamy eyes. The only word I can use to describe this piece of blatant propaganda is creepy. North Korea may not be the worst place on earth, but it is definitely the creepiest place on Earth.

North Korea made a grave threat against neighboring country South Korea, saying it will take special actions that would turn parts of Seoul to ashes. North Korea has accused the South Korea government for defaming the former’s leadership.

The North Korea government is specifically targeting the Lee Myung-Bak group, which the country considers as traitor and arch criminals. The government said the group, including conservative media, is trying to destroy fair public opinion.

In its announcement, the North Korea government said it will reduce parts of the Seoul capital to ashes in just three to four minutes, using unprecedented methods.

For months now, North Korea has been very critical of South Korea president Lee Myung-Bak. Just last Friday, thousands of its citizens flocked in the country’s capital Pyongyang to express their hatred for Lee.

South Korea, on the other hand, has always been vocal of North Korea’s failure to launch its missile nine days ago. Lee said that the money spent for the rocket launch could have bought 2.5 million tonnes of corn. Observers estimated that building the rocket cost North Korea an estimated $850 million, but priorities are different in the creepiest place on Earth.

The communist country also warned the United States and said it would retaliate because of US’s decision to scrap its deal for food aid. The US initially said it would not extend food aid if North Korea launches its missile.

The White House warned the country, saying that its moves would not ease the poverty of its people. White House spokesman Jay Carney said retaliating against South Korea or the US will not achieve anything nor would it grow the economy.

The new leader of North Korea has given his first public speech to celebrate the 100th birthday of the country’s founder Kim Il-sung. The speech also came two days after North Korea’s failed rocket launch.

Kim Jong-un spoke to tens of thousands of people in the country’s capital Pyongyang. The main square was prepared for a series of festivities to honor Kim Il-sung.

The young leader offered his respect to his predecessors and called on his citizens to continue strengthening the country’s military might. He emphasized that the country’s military technology is capable of both defence and offence.

He also said that North Korea can no longer be threatened, thanks to its nuclear arms. His speech was warmly received by his troops, while shouting “Mansei” or “long life.”

Kim Jong-un expressed his disappointment that Korea has been divided into two for many decades. He said he is willing to cooperate with those who wish for reunification.

North Korea founder Kim Il-sung died in 1994 after 46 years in power. Upon his death, Kim Jong-Il assumed power until he died in December 2011 following a heart attack. The power was then transferred to third-generation Kim Jong-un.

Last April 13, North Korea launched its long-range rocket despite major condemnation from world leaders. North Korea officials said the rocket was to boost an observational satellite into space but other countries believe this was a show of military might.

The rocket launch, however, failed just a minute after it was launched. The Defence Ministry of South Korea said the rocket disintegrated and the pieces fell to the sea.

It appears that North Korea is preparing the launch its missile despite outcry from world leaders. A satellite image revealed that the country is showing no sign to halt the operations.

The satellite image was taken in Tongchang-ri, where it is believed to be the location of the launch. US-Korea Institute at John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies analyzed the image, which showed fuel tanks and trucks, which would be used as store propellant of the missile.

North Korea came under fire when it announced that it is launching its satellite on April 15. The announcement coincided with the nuclear disarmament summit, a global meeting of world leaders. The summit was held in Seoul, South Korea.

The observation satellite launch is also in remembrance of the 100th birth of North Korea’s founder Kim Il-sung. The United States, however, the move is in direct violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

US President Barack Obama has also issued a statement saying North Korea should abort the plans but it is apparent the North Korea leaders are ignoring the appeal.

Australia Prime Minister Julia Gillard tried to allay fears in her home country, saying it is unlikely that missile debris will reach Australian shores.

Based on the institute’s analysis, different stages of the rocket will be implemented separately. The launch pad is estimated to be 1,000 meters away.

Peter Lavoy, US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asia Pacific security affairs, downplayed North Korea’s efforts, saying the rocket would be unstable and that it would not cause any casualty.

Although the issue of North Korea missile launch looms large during the nuclear disarmament summit in South Korea, Prime Minister Julia Gillard is quick to pacify fears. The North Korea government announced that it will have its satellite launch on April 15.

The move of the North Korea government is receiving criticism regional powers, including Japan, Australia, and the Philippines. PM Gillard has expressed her dismay saying that the move is a breach of United Nations Security Council resolutions.

This also reneges on Washington’s deal with North Korea that would allow inspectors from the International Energy Agency to enter the country in exchange of food aid.

PM Gillard said that North Korea’s missile launch will have the lowest potential risk to Australian and that it is unlikely that missile debris would reach Australian soil. She also remarked that there is little evidence that a nuclear device would be attached to the missile.

In her address to Yonsei University students in Seoul, she said Asia is facing great security risks because of North Korea’s constant refusal to de-nuclearise. She also expressed appreciation to the more than 150,000 South Koreans in Australia, stating that the two countries are models of democracy.

US President Barack Obama, meanwhile, expressed his dissatisfaction with North Korea’s plans. Obama, who was also attending the Seoul summit, said that North Korea is further isolating itself from the rest of the world.

Obama also warned that if North Korea does not cancel its plans, more sanctions will be imposed to the country.
