Shoppers, get ready with your purses!

Retailers are getting busy as they are making serious offers with their Internet promotions. With 23 days to go before Christmas, shoppers should expect great online deals for different gift items.

According to the latest data, Aussie shoppers are expected to fork some $16 billion worth of spending for the holidays. Industry observers said much of these spending would happen online.

Based on the figures from the National Australia Bank, online sales are currently growing at an average annual rate between 20 to 40 percent.

IBISWorld also estimates that the country’s online shopping industry generates some $11.3 billion in annual revenue.

Because of the trend, retailers are now making sure that they have their products available online. The Leading Edge chief executive Tim Riches, retailers should understand that shopping is no longer confined to the brick-and-mortar stores, especially during Christmas.

Riches added that retailers should also realize that consumers are less price-sensitive during the holiday season. The consumer behavior is that they have less time to shop and would prefer shopping online to buy Christmas gifts.

Riches said that if retailers play their cards right, they can generate enough revenues during the Christmas season that could cover the coming slow months. If retailers can’t take advantage of the holidays, they would likely close shop.

The NAB research showed that shoppers who are likely to shop online would be between 30 to 40 years old. They are also likely to spend on fashion, cosmetics and electronics.
