April 12, 2012 by rochelle in People

Actor Zac Efron flew to Australia recently to promote his new film The Lucky One. Efron graced the world premiere of his movie in Sydney, much to the delight of his Australian fans.

Hundreds of fans waited for at least nine hours to catch a glimpse of the handsome actor. Efron said the experience was overwhelming and felt unreal. He added that Australian fans were very loud and energetic.

This was not the first visit of actor, who first made waves with the Disney TV original movie “High School Musical.” Even though this is his eighth visit to the country, the enthusiasm of his fans remains the same.

Efron said that Australian girls are a lot like the girls from California. He said Australia feels like home.

Australian Scott Hicks directed The Lucky One, which was based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. It also stars Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner.

Efron’s breakout role came with High School Musical in 2006. He played Troy Bolton, a high school student and captain of the basketball team.  He and co-star Vanessa Hudgens flew to different countries, including Australia, to promote the film.

That same year, he received the Teen Choice Award for Breakout Star. He has made at least 15 movies and appeared in more than a dozen TV shows.

Efron went steady with Hudgens for two years. The couple broke up in December 2010. Rumor has it that he is dating Lily Collins, the daughter of singer Phil Collins with his second wife Jill Tavelman.

The Lucky One opens on April 20.
