Blackmores To Enter Animal Health Industry
Health company Blackmores announced that it is entering the animal healthcare industry. It aims to provide products and services that would cater to pets, specifically dogs and cats.
Last month, Blackmores launched its newest product range of treats for dogs. The company said the market’s response to the product was encouraging.
The new product range adds to the company’s animal healthcare portfolio. It currently markets multivitamins and pain relievers for animals. The products are available in veterinary clinics, pet stores, and regular pharmacies.
Blackmores chief executive Christina Holgate said that animal healthcare is an opportunity the company is taking advantage of. Although no market data is available on how big the industry is, consumer data show that owners give vitamins to their pets.
Many owners also treat their dogs as if they were their own children. This means that they provide the same care to their dogs like they do with their own kids.
In 2010, Blackmores purchased Pure Animal Wellbeing and turned it into a marketing division. Under PAW, it launched grooming products and pet nutritional supplements.
Blackmores figured in a controversy last year when it forged an agreement with the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. The deal required pharmacists to recommend Blackmores products when dispensing medicines. Because of the backlash, the agreement was reneged.
Blackmores is a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exhchange. It has offices in Australia, New Zealand and some parts in Asia. It develops, manufactures and markets natural vitamins, minerals and herbs supplements.
