Growth of Online Retail Sales

August 2, 2012 by rochelle in Business with 0 Comments

Online sales have increased in the last couple of months according to the National Australia Bank Online Retail Sales Index.  There has been a spike of increase from June 2011 as online spending increased by 19 percent.

However, compared to 2010, the growth rate is lower.  In June 2010, retail growth was up by 32 percent.

Even with the slow growth, online retail sale is much stronger compared to traditional sellers or the ‘brick-and-mortar’ stores.’

NAB said that the value of online retail stores is 5.3 percent more than the traditional stores.

The traditional stores sector only grew 0.2 percent from June 2011 to 4.2 percent in June 2012, in non-seasonally adjusted terms.  Then after seasonal adjustments, the sales grew to 2.8 percent in May compared to the same month last year.

April saw an increase of 1.7 percent as compared to last year, as well.
